Clay Jensen had received a box with no return address full of audio tapes in the mail. Confused, he puts the tapes in the cassette player in number order, unbeknownst to him that the tapes were an audio recording of a dead friend of his by the name of Hannah Baker, who had committed suicide not too long before. The tapes mention a list of names, and says that everyone mentioned on the list is some what responsible for her death. Clay wants to find his purpose in her suicide, and after he has listened to all 13 tapes, he is instructed to pass the box on to the next person on the list. This introduction gives me an eerie feeling, and I want to continue reading and hear all the reasons why.
1. "She's thinking I've escaped from a lunatic asylum." Crawford uses a hyperbole in this sentence to emphasize and exaggerate how crazy Carter seemed to the female. 2. "...but then I remembered fanny packs are gay and had to throw it out." Crawford uses a euphemism when explaining why he doesn't wear fanny packs, describing it as "gay" for humor relief and to make Abby feel better for over dressing. 3. "WHEW!" Crawford uses onomatopoeia because the word used sounds just like the action. "High School Students Demand Wars in Easier-To-Find Countries"1. "An estimated 2,000 more students were expected to hold a march in the nation's capital, but forgot which city it was in."
It's ironic because you're imagining having a bunch of students marching, then realize that they will not be able to because they do not know where to march. 2. "Can't we fight in, like, Italy? It's boot-shaped." Juxtaposition is used because she describes Italy as being "boot shaped" and that is the only reason for why she feels that we should attack. 3. "We can't attack a fictional country." A euphemism is used because they nicely answer and idiotic question when asked about attacking a country in a video game. This is a satire because it's based on the serious event of childhood education and makes fun of it in a somewhat offensive yet hilarious manner. Wolf, Naomi. "Ending India's Rape Culture". Summary: India is fighting for women's rights once again, specifically for stronger laws about rape. Analysis: The government in India seems as if they do not like to listen. Apparently, demonstrations were made for women's rights, which will probably never happen, because of India's strict religion in general. I hate the "Blame the Victim" culture that India holds. It doesn't matter what the victim dresses like, they didn't "ask for it" as they say in the article. It's really sad that these women practically need to walk around with male escorts/bodyguards, not being able to feel safe in their own homes. I just believe that India should make stronger laws about it, and take it more seriously, because it is very serious, despite gender. The prosecution laws themselves also concern me. It states that in more countries than just India (such as Sweden) "some men will not be prosecuted if they know the victim". That is probably one of the weakest things I've ever heard. Whether you know the man or not, it is still rape if you didn't consent to it. On the bright side, the crime rate has died down a bit since around 30 years ago, fortunately. Not many people can say that film is their passion. Maybe acting, but never behind the camera. Some would say that it seems like too much work, but I think that if you're up for the challenge, then go for it!!!
I've been interested in filming ever since I was just 8 years old. I would always watch movies and wonder how they were made. That thought was always on my mind. In school, I would spend my time in class day dreaming about good movies plots, often writing them down instead of writing notes. It was just something that I enjoyed to think about, something that I enjoyed doing. Recently, I have been put into a theater camp. it helps me a lot by learning rules to filming and also how to work a camera for photography and stuff. I've also been taught how to act, which I'm pretty good at, but I don't prefer it. My favorite genre is horror, or psychological thrillers to be specific. It has always interested me, and I tend to see many great films over the years in hopes that one day I will be able to make one of the best. I want to be big like Stephen King, Wes Craven, Sam Raimi, and many others. If I had to choose a big movie influence though, it would have to be the film "Cabin In the Woods" by Joss Whedon, who also created "The Avengers". I feel as if that film really sets the bar high. I hope to get into a great college and to learn more about the filming industry, drama, and psychology as well. I hope to have one of my films put onto the big screen one day, and to be big in Hollywood. I know that I have the motivation to go after what I dream of being. I honestly can't fathom the problem here. Whatever happened to Freedom of Speech and Freedom of Assembly? Isn't it legal still? At least when it's for a good cause.
The teachers of the Chicago public school system were striking to get better pay and work environments. In all honesty, I'm completely for it. Teachers do not make much money to begin with. My mother is a teacher, I should know. With the income that is made, we barely have enough to make it through, which is quite crazy in my opinion, After all, you need to attend school to learn how to read, write, and train to be able to do any other job that you want to do, so why are teachers paid the least? Of course, even though I was rooting for it, there were some thing that I was against. The Chicago teachers also wanted "Job Security" which means that they cannot be easily fired if their students are not learning the way that they're supposed to do. For that reason, I'm not so sure if their protesting is valid. If a teacher is not doing their job correctly, then he/she should not be teaching anymore, no questions asked! Obviously, they should not earn the money that they think that they deserve. I just believe that they shouldn't have asked for too much, but something does need to change, That is why I agreed with the protest. For those that believe that these teachers are selfish for doing what they did, I believe that you are wrong. The kids need teachers, and teachers need respect. Well, I like computers too, but along with other things that I love, i do know that sometimes it isn't always a good thing. What I mean is, what ever you say online stays forever. You know that, right? We would all like to think that the internet is a safe place, but just like the real world, it is not. We may not be able to make everyone do the right thing, but the least that we can do is to do the right thing ourselves.
Would you like to be a good digital citizen? Well, you can start by being a good person. If you wouldn't bully anyone in real life, why would you do it online? Hey, here's a tip for all of you cyber bullies out there: If you wouldn't say it in person, don't say it online. Stop it. I could get really emotional about the topic, because I was once a victim of cyber bullying. I would be teased and made fun of for being a "weird and depressed kid" all of the time. how did i get over it? Well, one thing is that I came into realization that they weren't my friends, so I honestly didn't have to take what they were throwing at me. We were not playing the same game. What I mean by this is, if you are secure with who you are, don't let words bother you. With that, I also confronted the bully. I told them that what they were saying about me really made me feel and look bad as a person, and I asked them to stop. Sometimes, the bullies will feel your pain and feel bad themselves. Some people really do not want to hurt other people, so just let them know what they're doing to you. If it continues, block the person. Delete them off of Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, etc. Avoid them as much as possible. Most likely they wouldn't be able to get to you then! If it POSSIBLY gets any worse, don't be afraid to take a stand and tell an adult. More than likely they will be able to put a stop to it to help you. Hopefully nothing like this will ever happened to you. if it is the case, though, don't let them take control. You are your own person. you represent yourself, so don't let your reputation go down the drain. be a good person, and be a good digital citizen. October 25th
Mom’s crying again. So is Ariel, but don’t worry bro, I’ll assuage them both. (I used a big word there: “Assuage”. All thanks to advance English!) I remember when you were in that class. You used to help me a lot in reading. I still struggle with reading a bit, but I’m getting better. I hope that you’re okay with where you are. We’re happy on some days. I’ll be happy for you, bro. October 26th Mom told me that you called home. As upset and distraught as you made her, I wonder what you did. What did you do? She’s not feeling any better than she was yesterday. Neither is Ariel. Didn’t you want to talk to Ariel? I mean, she is your sister, you know. Okay, so I’m continuing this message after a few hours. I realized that you didn’t ask to talk to me either. Am I not good enough for you? Wow, I really hate you right now. Dad told me that it was "Voluntary", they didn’t have to take you and you didn’t have to go. You left us, why did you leave? October 27th You called us again, but this time dad answered the phone. I can hear him; His voice as loud as thunder. I bet it’s frightening to hear, but hey, you deserve it. Sorry, bro. He keeps saying your name over and over. “Lucas, Lucas, Lucas” why? What did you do now? More pain and suffering that you want to cause us? How great, Fantastic. I won’t take that from you. There were many a man to leave; to leave with purpose, and then come back, but you don’t, stupid. October 28th Okay, so I’m pretty sure by now that I’m just rage writing. This is complicated, I’m sorry. I’m not the type to say my feelings. By the way, Ariel is with me. She says hi, but she hates you. Sorry, it’s probably my fault. I’ve never seen so much anger, so much fire in an eight year old girl. It’s kind of amazing. Man, you should see her. Oh wait, you can’t. Whatever. October 30 If I’m honest, I wasn’t in the mood to write yesterday. I’m missing you like crazy. I decided that I wasn’t going to hate you anymore. It’s not like you can hear me anyway. Mom told me that you were going to call on Halloween. Of all people, Lucas; Ariel, jumping all over our home with glee, shouldn’t be disappointed. Call her, disappoint me. I don’t care anymore, I promise. Actually, I was kidding, don’t try to disappoint me. That’ll seriously hurt a lot. October 31 It’s Halloween, bro! I remember when we used to have fights about us being too young to go trick-or-treating! I’m 13, I think that I’m in a pretty good place. If you were here, then I’d say that seeing a 17 year old guy go trick or treating is creepy! I’m Dracula this year! Ariel is that little princess that she’s always dreamt of being. She shines in the light like the moon and the stars. Mom said that I have to go take her and that you’ll call us tonight, so I’ll hear from you tonight! YOU DIDN’T CALL! Why didn’t you call us, why didn’t you call Ariel of all people? You must seriously hate us, don’t you Lucas? Well guess what: We hate you too. November 1 We chatted for the first time in months today. I guess I enjoyed it. Over all, I did learn a lot. Lucas, I know that we were low on money, I know. We may be poor to you, but to ourselves, we’re wealthy people. We have high spirits and high hopes. I wish that you understood that before you decided to put yourself away like that. You didn’t have to fall under the pressure, you could have capitulated. I was being honest when I told you that I didn’t feel sorry for you. I really don’t. No one told you to rob that bank. November 2 Tomorrow will be our first visit! I’m really excited; I can’t wait to see you! It’s been months, bro. Three months, and you’ve missed so much! That’s okay; I’ll catch you up to speed when we see you! If you ever got to read this, you’d probably think that I was super bipolar. Maybe I am a mad man! Quick question: When are you coming back? Wait, you can just tell me that in person. November 3 I’m seeing you today, and I’ve decided that this is my last entry. I want to give this diary to you. I don’t care what’s in it; I know what’s in it. Fair warning: I raged A TON. Don’t hate me though, bro. I’m still your little brother Riley, I was just upset. I really do miss you. Maybe when you read this, it’ll make you feel a little better. Sure, there are bad things, but it isn’t a thing in here that you didn’t already know. Maybe it’ll help you remember who we are and were as a unit. We didn’t need the money. We still don’t have the money, but it’s okay, because we have each other. I hope that when you leave and come back, you’ll see that. You’ll see that you have all that you really need and that you were rich all along. We’re about to get in the car to go see you, so I guess that I must stop writing now. Happy belated Halloween and early Thanksgiving, I guess! Goodbye for now until we meet again. Who is really the bad guy here? I had recently read an article about a man suffering for years of a stroke in 2005. His name was Mr. Tony Nicklinson, a 58 year old man that was fighting for his right-to-die and denied it because of legal issues. Tony Nicklinson, paralyzed from the neck down because of a stroke, had been suffering for years with this forced locked-in syndrome. Over time, he decided that he didn't want to live with this anymore. He described his life as a "living nightmare" as said in the article. He wanted to die because he felt that it was time. When he made the request, his doctor wouldn't give it to him. It was illegal and would be counted as murder on the doctor's part. This man has been to court. Felt it was completely unfair for him to live on this way when he couldn't take part in anything physical along with his wife and two daughters. He was missing out on life. He came to the court with a valid case. Waited some time at his home with his family for answers. What he had gotten was not what he had expected. He was left in heartbreak after realizing that he had been denied his right. Devastated, over time he had denied food for a week until the day that he had successfully passed away. Personally, I felt that they should have given it to him. Think about it: The majority of us have had pets, correct? Any of you had a dog with a problem? Heart, lungs, kidneys... I once had a dog. He had heart disease when I was younger. My mom and I thought that it would be best if we had him put down because we didn't want him to suffer any longer. Many people do this, it is quite normal. But when a man who is about 90% disabled to do ANYTHING asks to take him out of his misery, it's inhumane. What kind of world do we live in? I know that this is highly opinionated, but I'm sure that others feel the same way. They left him to suffer and it wasn't fair. He just wanted to be free. What do you think? |
